Peking. In the future, Chinese students should exercise more and spend less time doing homework. That is what the Chinese Ministry of Education ordered. According to this, it should be ensured that students can be physically active for one hour per day both inside and outside school.
Physical education classes should focus on providing students with “health knowledge, basic exercises and specific skills”. In addition, the establishment of youth sports clubs is to be promoted, which will offer football, basketball and volleyball, among other things.
Fitness improved slightly
The ministry recently ordered that elementary and middle school students should no longer be overloaded with homework, as was often the case in the past. According to the Ministry’s orders, primary schools should ensure that first and second grade students no longer do written homework and that higher grade students can do their homework within an hour.
As the state newspaper “China Daily” reported on Monday, the fitness of Chinese students has improved slightly in the past five years. After only 26.5 percent of the students rated the fitness as “in good shape” in 2016, last year it was around a third of the students. Previously, more and more overweight school-age children had been observed.
