Snapdragon 888 maybe just launched six months ago. But Qualcomm already prepared a more powerful version called Snapdragon 888 Pro.
Details about this flagship chipset were leaked by a tipter from China Digital Chat Station. In a post on Weibo, this account says the Snapdragon 888 Pro is being tested by several cellphone vendors from China, as quoted from Gizmochina, Monday (26/4/2021).
When compared to Snapdragon 865 Plus, there will be more Chinese vendors launching phones with Snapdragon 888 Pro. Digital Chat Station said phones with Snapdragon 888 Pro will launch from the third quarter of this year.
In terms of specifications, Cortex-X1, which is the main core of Snapdragon 888 Pro, will have a higher clock speed than that Snapdragon 888. Meanwhile the other cores will have the same clock speed.
The GPU may not get an upgrade because the clock speed is quite high. This should come as no surprise as this is already a tradition of Qualcomm’s flagship chipset.
The Digital Chat Station did not provide details on the frequency difference between the two chipsets. Because if you look at the previous generation, the Snapdragon 865 Plus is not just an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 865.
As is known, Snapdragon 865 Plus also supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 which is not in Snapdragon 888.
It is also not known whether the Snapdragon 888 Pro will solve the heat problem reported by users of cellphones with Snapdragon 888. We will wait until the Snapdragon 888 Pro is officially announced to see the difference. Snapdragon 888.
