CALIFORNIA, iNews.id – Perseverance, robot Explorer Mars belong NASA will have a rival. Therefore, the space agency China (CNSA) has just announced a name for their robot explorer or rover.
China’s first rover will be named Zhurong. The rover robot was aboard the Tianwen-1 probe which arrived in Mars orbit on February 24.
The name Zhu Rong is claimed to have originated from the local belief god of war. Zhu Rong is depicted as having a human face, the body of a beast, and riding two dragons. In traditional Chinese belief, Zhu Rong is the god of fire which symbolizes the light that shines on the world.
“The name signifies lighting the fire of Chinese planetary exploration,” CNSA Deputy Administrator Wu Yanhua was quoted as saying ABC News, Sunday (25/4/2021).
The top candidate for the landing site is Utopia Planitia, the rocky plain where the US lander, Viking 2, in 1976.
CNSA said the goals of Tianwen-1 include analyzing and mapping the Martian surface and geology, looking for water ice, and studying the climate and surface environment.
