The number of students at work during the Easter holidays has more than doubled this year compared to 2020, human resources service provider Randstad Group said on Sunday. Student work is recovering but it remains below the level of the record year 2019 because of the coronavirus crisis.

After the summer holidays, the Easter holidays represent the busiest period in terms of student jobs, explains Randstad. In total, some 12,000 students worked on average per week for Randstad Group, up 130% compared to 2020. The average number of student jobists was then around 5,200 per week, compared to 14,000 in 2019.
Students worked an average of 24 hours per person over Easter, three hours less than in 2020 and one hour more than in 2019.
Randstad recalls that the situation was “downright catastrophic” during the Easter holidays last year, with a drop in work of some 66%.
Despite this recovery, student work still lags slightly behind, analyzes Sébastien Cosentino, labor market expert at Randstad Group. “Sectors that have a tradition of employing many student jobistes are still heavily impacted today; let us think of the events sector, the hospitality industry and amusement parks, which are still closed. As the sanitary rules become more flexible, student work will also pick up steam. ”
