One of the main candidates for the post of German Chancellor, Annalena Berbock, is against the provision of weapons to Ukraine. This was announced by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andriy Melnik to us on his Twitter page.
Berbock in an interview with the FAZ said that for Berlin, assistance to Kiev in “mine clearance of Donbass” is a higher priority than the provision of defense weapons.
“Unfortunately, we have a refusal to provide Kiev with defense weapons and NATO. This is disappointing,” the ambassador wrote.

Melnik also added that the time has come to cast aside the “illusion about a change in Berlin’s policy” after the elections and rely only on one’s own strength.
Earlier, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, citing sources, reported that Ukraine had requested from Germany modern weapons to protect the Black Sea coast: corvettes, missile defense systems and demining equipment.
