Netanyahu Calls for All Parties to Calm After Clashes in Jerusalem

Jerusalem

Prime Minister (PM) Israel Benjamin Netanyahu calling for all parties to calm down after several nights of clashes on Jerusalem. At least, hundreds of people were injured in the clash.

“First of all we want to ensure that law and order are respected … now we demand compliance with the law and I call on all parties to calm down,” Netanyahu said in a statement. AFP, Saturday (24/4/2021).

Tensions have escalated in Jerusalem over the meeting ban, and a series of videos posted showed Arab youth attacking ultra-Orthodox Jews, and Jewish extremists taking to the streets to oppress Arabs.

On Thursday (22/4), at least 125 people were injured when Palestinian protesters, angered by chants of “Arab death” from right-wing Jewish demonstrators, clashed repeatedly with police.

Clashes broke out again on Friday, when tens of thousands of Muslim worshipers left Jerusalem’s revered Al-Aqsa Mosque after night prayers and found themselves confronted by dozens of armed police, some on horseback.

At the security meeting, Netanyahu met top officials including military commander Aviv Kohavi, and also discussed repeated rocket fire from the Gaza Strip into Israel starting before midnight Friday through Saturday.

Israeli tanks opened fire on Gaza in response and launched air strikes on the blockaded coastal enclave controlled by the Muslim militant group Hamas after more rockets were fired.

The Israeli army said 36 rockets fired at Israel were intercepted or hit open ground. It said the air strikes hit Hamas military targets as well as underground infrastructure and rocket launchers.

“Regarding the Gaza Strip, I give instructions that we are prepared for all scenarios,” Netanyahu said.
