Turkey correspondent Mitra Nazar:
Turkey says yes there were many crimes committed then, but that was in the context of a bloody war surrounding the breakup of the Ottoman Empire, and there were casualties on all sides. It is said that there has never been a deliberate attempt to exterminate the Armenian population. Turkey has maintained that for over a hundred years. It’s what generations of Turks have learned in school. Those genocide recognitions are being received as something anti-Turkish, an attempt to cast Turkey in a bad light.
