“Believe it or not, that’s the way it is,” says the Spanish actor in an interview with Efe on the occasion of the presentation of “The innocent”, the new Netflix series, from the director Oriol Paulo, in which he stars.
“I have it (the fear), of course. It is the daily bread. It seems not because we are lucky and we are doing well. But there are times that one from the outside does not know either that you are stuck for many months without working. We are in a difficult moment and there is always a lot of fear that they will not call you again ”, he assures.
A few weeks after receiving the Goya as the protagonist of the film “You will not kill”, by David Victori, the actor confesses that he is “very grateful” for the award. But in the end, his life “remains the same” because the “only” the actors want is to work.
“It is very nice to receive an award like this, but the next day you are already thinking about jobs. For us, the awards are work and our goyas or awards are that work. It makes one completely happy and complete that they offer you things, projects . It happens to all of us, that even if you have a goya, one is always afraid that they will not call you again, “he explains.
CINEMA AND SERIES
On the 30th, Netflix premieres “The Innocent”, the new series starring Casas, in which he plays the role of Mateo, who is involved in a fight in which a young man accidentally dies, an event that leads him to prison.
The story begins nine years after that tragic moment, when “Mat” already has a new and apparently quiet life as a lawyer with Olivia (actress Aura Garrido), his wife.
An inexplicable call from Olivia’s cell phone while she is traveling throws everything upside down and Mateo begins a frantic race to discover the truth.
The eight-part series is an adaptation of the bestseller of the same title by American writer Harlan Coben.
“With Oriol Paulo (director of the series) there is something very beautiful, who continues to call out the actors with whom he has worked. He makes a small family and feels comfortable. We are not very problematic actors, we do not give headaches and we are super nice ”, jokes Casas.
The actor praises the filmmaker. “When you get to the set (of filming), things are very clear and that for the actors is very important, when you see the boss with everything so chewed up and everything so clear, it’s a pleasure,” he says.
Paulo was one of the first filmmakers to trust Casas as the leading actor of adult characters, such as the businessman Adrián Doria in “Contratiempo” (2017), a film that broke collection records not only in Spain, since in China it achieved more than $ 25 million.
In recent years, Casas has gotten into roles such as Francisco Boix in “The Mauthausen Photographer”; he has become the last inhabitant of a remote mountain town in “Under the skin of the wolf”; in a violent and vengeful father who loses his daughter in “Goodbye” or an obsessive and terrifying health emergency technician in “The Practitioner”, where he met his current partner, actress Déborah François.
And so on, until he reached Dani from “You will not kill”, which has earned him the recognition of academics and colleagues in Spanish cinema.
