“The most serious side effects are very rare cases of unusual thrombi with low platelet counts,” the agency said, estimating that such thrombi form in one in 100,000 people.
The benefits of the vaccine in preventing severe Covid-19 outweigh these risks, the EZA said after an in-depth study of the vaccine data.
The analysis of the data concluded that the risk of developing platelets with low platelet counts is higher in people under the age of 60, but the benefits also outweigh the risks in this age group, the agency said.
On April 7, EZA announced that blood clots should be reported as a very rare side effect of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine. The Agency did not impose any new restrictions on the use of the vaccine in people over 18 years of age.
However, several European Union (EU) countries have stopped using this vaccine, while others only use it in people over 60 years of age.
