About three weeks ago, the Edmundston Regional Hospital was close to its maximum capacity. Vitalité Health Network feared the worst. Two patients had to be transferred to Fredericton. While the situation in the Northwest remains unstable, the unit that treats COVID-19 patients in Edmundston is doing better.
“It’s sure that we are still hit hard enough with the outbreaks, but at the hospital level, it’s still going, I think we can say, a little better as the days go by. pass (…) ”, affirmed John Tobin, family doctor in zone 4.
As of Friday, 11 COVID patients were hospitalized in Edmundston.
Four of them are in intensive care, three of them on a ventilator. The rest are at the COVID Unit.
“At the COVID Unit, we have seven patients, most of them are stabilized and are getting better and better. They are slowly recovering, ”said Dr Tobin.
“Of these seven patients, it should be mentioned that the two patients who had been transferred to Fredericton a couple of weeks ago are back in this unit. As I said, things are getting better and better and we may even expect a day off today in the COVID Unit. ”
The Edmundston Regional Hospital has not had to transfer any new patients since April 7.
Tobin says he and his team are closely monitoring news of the outbreak this week in a Grand Falls home.
“The outbreak in Saint-Jacques is totally under control. We are sure we are a little worried about the situation at the Grand Falls home, except that I was informed that most of the patients were vaccinated. We do not expect necessarily to receive several extremely sick people from this home there, but it is sure that it is the time that he will tell us how many. “
The Vitalité health network reminds that visits are still prohibited, except for obstetrics, pediatrics, intensive care, palliative care and for patients who will receive medical assistance in dying.
