The vaccination coverage in the 80-82 age group is surprisingly low compared to the ages around it. The Agency for Care and Health suspects that their invitation has not reached them.

Three quarters of Flemish people over 65 years old have been vaccinated, with a vaccination rate of more than 90 percent in the oldest age groups. But something strange is going on with the group of 80 to 82 year olds: according to figures from the Agency for Care and Health, which manages the vaccinations in Flanders, few people have been vaccinated compared to, for example, the 78 or 88 year olds.
“Something must have happened there with the invitations,” said Dirk Dewolf of the Agency at a press briefing. Apparently the invitations have left, but have not arrived. The maximum is slightly more than ten thousand people, but in reality it must be lower. Many vaccination centers will have already corrected and contacted those people, so that they have already been vaccinated. ‘ It is still being investigated where exactly it went wrong.
Temporary slight decrease
This week and following there has been a temporary slight drop in the number of vaccines being administered, with 468,845 vaccines being delivered from May 3. That then builds up to more than half a million, before falling back briefly in the second half of May. During this period there are also many second doses on the program.
In June, more than 700,000 vaccines are administered every week. The expectation remains that every Fleming over 18 years of age will have received a vaccine by 11 July. Now it is the turn of people between 65 and 69 years old, in May it will mainly concern people with an underlying condition. They are mixed with people between the ages of 60 and 64 and police operational units.
