what do you think of science?

Take part in the big survey of the University of Lorraine « the French and Science ”.

Science and You (U.L.)

The Grand Est region has particularly suffered from the coronavirus crisis. This unprecedented situation invites researchers from the University of Lorraine to questionr, in this particular context, the attitudes of the inhabitants of the region facing medical research, and more broadly to science. The particularly pronounced impact of the crisis in this region atit profoundly changed attitudes and representations? Isit is now possible to speak regional specificity in our relationship to scientific research?

An investigation in the Grand Est

To answer these questions, the Université de Lorraine is piloting the 8th edition of the survey ” The French and science », In partnership with the London School of Economics and Political Science and the laboratory GEMASS (Letters Sorbonne University / CNRS). CThis investigation follows a national investigation conducted in November 2020. The first ones results show that, despite these eventsbrutally suffered, it still seems difficult to to distinguish attitudes of Alsatians, Champenois and Lorrains of those observed in all French regions. The inhabitants of the Grand Est region claim in the same proportions than in the rest of France their confidence in the scientists of health : they and they particularly trust doctors (9 out of 10, a little or many), the World Health Organization (31.5% confide in them a lot).iance, 45% un little) and academics and scientists (1 in 4 trust them a lot and 1 in 2 a little trust) to tell them the truth about the coronavirus.
However, the survey conducted by the University of Lorraine also highlights que them opinions of the inhabitants of the Grand Est region differ slightly from those of the rest of the France when more controversial or controversial issues are discussed. As for example, on the origin of the coronavirus, they are 41% to think that thes laboratories pharmaceuticals are the cause of the coronavirus, against only 33% in the rest of the country.

A call for volunteers

It is both to understand these differences and to study more generally the representations of science dans a context of health crisis that the University of Lorraine calls for volunteers. In order to enrich the data collected in November 2020 from 3,500 French women and French, the University of Lorraine is looking for volunteers from the Grand Est region, aged 18 and over, agreeing to participate in an individual interview. These interviews will be carried out between May and June, and will take the form of a discussion around their perception of the science (possibility of carrying out the interview remotely). Approximately one hour long, cThe interviews are anonymous and not rpaid. If you want to participate, send an email at pauline.hervois@univlorraine.fr before 15 May 2021. The results will be revealed at the international colloquium on scientific culture.fique et technique Science and You (November 16 to 19, 2021, Robert Schuman Congress Center in Metz).
