Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The Health Ministry’s Director of Vector Infectious and Zoonotic Disease Prevention and Control, Didik Budijanto, stated that controlling malaria or dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD), during the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, was somewhat extra.
He admitted, there is a potential for dengue or malaria outbreaks that have emerged in Jakarta and several other areas, while hospitals are full of Covid-19 patients. According to him, the malaria program and health service facilities must maintain optimal conditions to support malaria or dengue fever services.
“Mainly the availability of malaria and dengue fever drugs and logistics in every health service. Officials from the provincial and district or city health offices are obliged to monitor and anticipate malaria or dengue fever services during social restrictions,” he said during a virtual press conference with the theme of Together Community Towards a Malaria Free Indonesia organized by the Ministry of Health on Friday (23/4/21).
Didik explained that vector-borne and zoonotic diseases are infectious diseases through vectors and animals that carry diseases such as malaria and dengue fever. To overcome this, vector control measures include the detection of vector types of mosquitoes and other insects that have the potential to transmit vector-borne diseases. This effort was also strengthened by activities surveillance vectors to monitor their development and deployment.
Every area around humans must be endeavored to comply with the quality standards for the control of vectors and disease-carrying animals, which include numbers of densities and their breeding habitats.
Efforts to control this disease by reducing the population as low as possible, so that its presence is no longer at risk for disease transmission in an area.
With structured and massive socialization and explanation to the public, it is hoped that public awareness and motivation will arise about the dangers of vectors and disease-carrying animals, so that they can play a role in controlling and preventing them.
“Apart from that, the management of disease cases should also be maximized by detecting and increasing the capacity of health services at the health centers and regional hospitals as well as improving health services.update prevention of dengue. Didik also added that currently the communication and health promotion strategy is still being carried out to prevent increased morbidity and mortality and is responsive to the Covid-19 pandemic situation.
Then the government also utilizes potential media to disseminate malaria prevention and services to the community, namely SMS social networks, radio, TV, social media, posters, billboards, megaphones and others.
Acting Director General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, explained that malaria prevention coverage must still be carried out because some parts of Indonesia are still prone to malaria, especially in the eastern region.
“With this prevention, hopefully the goal of malaria-free Indonesia in 2030 can be achieved quickly. And that is necessary from the support of all sectors and levels of society to unite against Covid-19 and malaria towards a healthy Indonesia,” said Maxi.
