Fallon Fox: A Biopic About The Transgender MMA Fighter

A biopic dedicated to transgender MMA fighter Fallon Fox is currently in the works at Mark Gordon Pictures.

Who is Fallon Fox?

Fallon Fox was born in Toledo, Ohio. She remembers struggling with her gender from a young age. As a teenager, she thought she might be gay, but learned the term ‘transgender’ when she was 17. Fox continued to live as a straight man and married his then-girlfriend at the age of 19, when the latter became pregnant with their daughter. She then enlisted in the United States Navy to support her new family and served as an operations specialist on the USS Enterprise.

After leaving the Navy, Fallon Fox enrolled in the University of Toledo, but dropped out of school due to ongoing psychological stress caused by her unresolved gender issues. After leaving college, Fox worked as a truck driver so he could afford sex reassignment surgery. She moved to Chicago, Illinois with her daughter. In 2006, she traveled to Bangkok, Thailand to undergo gender reassignment surgery, breast augmentation and hair transplant at Bangkok National Hospital.

An MMA fighter

Fallon Fox came out as transgender in March 2013, after her first two professional fights in the women’s division. Controversy swelled following confusion with the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) and the Florida Athletic Commission over the licensing process Fox chose to perform at Coral Gables. After publications shed light on Fox’s licensing process and coming out, many commentators have raised the question of whether a woman who has been assigned a male at birth should be able to fight in women’s divisions in MMA.

A biopic in preparation

Written by T Cooper and Allison Glock-Cooper, the biopic on Fallon Fox will discuss the fact that she hid her identity as a transgender woman before coming out in 2013. He will also address the abuse she suffered from the mixed martial arts community. The film will also revisit the controversy her fights sparked and the debate over whether a woman who was assigned male at birth should be able to fight in a female division of the sport.

Fallon Fox said in a statement: ‘I’ve had a lot of fun so far working with the producers and writers to bring this story to life. I hope this film sheds light on the subject of trans athletes in sport. This story needs to be told now more than ever.
