Juventus boss Andrea Agnelli is one of the main initiators and drivers of the Super League. In “La Repubblica” there was a large interview with an Italian activist about the new games and the reasons for their creation.
Until recently, Andrea Agnelli was president of the European Clubs Association (ECA) and negotiated with UEFA a new shape of the Champions League. However, he later turned his back on the federation, resigned and became one of the faces of the Super League.
– We did not threaten anyone, we still want to take part in the national competition. It’s a soccer tradition. Fans are important to us and must have a chance to come to the stadium every Sunday Agnelli assured him.
– We will play at every stadium in Italy, Spain and England. The new rivalry is to bring us closer to the younger generation that is moving away from football. They want to watch important events, they do not attach so much importance to the national games. 1/3 of football fans support Superliga clubs, 10% follow not the teams, but the players. Most people between the ages of 16 and 24 have no interest in football at all, that’s the most disturbing thing – added.
– I am not afraid of competition. I am much more afraid of the monopoly that prevents clubs and players from enjoying the freedom that the European Union treaty gives them. We wrote a letter to the heads of UEFA and FIFA, we want to start a dialogue. If they offer something, we’ll judge it – he stressed.
– For almost ten years I have been working in international sports institutions which control competitions, have a monopoly and bear no economic risk. It only falls on the clubs. I could not make UEFA understand how much risk all teams bear when they generate profits for others. They manage our rights without risking anything. UEFA and FIFA manage our players, but they did not help us in times of crisis – finished.
