Mobilization of taxi drivers on Thursday against the intrusion of Uber in Barcelona

The taxi sector has agreed today in an assembly that has been held at the Sants station in Barcelona, to demonstrate next Thursday in a slow march that will leave the Venetian Towers, to go to the Foment del Treball delegation and then to the Parliament of Catalonia.

The decision has been made in the assembly by an overwhelming majority against the intrusion of Uber in Barcelona.

As we anticipated a few days ago, the sector assures that “if Uber operates in Barcelona there will be war.” Apart from the mobilizations in the street, the Elite Taxi spokesman, Tito Álvarez, has also assured that they will be the ones who will denounce the taxis that work for Uber.

As explained in the assembly, the intention is to download the Uber application, request the services, demand the ticket for the journey and later report it to the Metropolitan Taxi Institute.

It should be noted that the IMET has warned that the Uber application is not authorized to operate in the Barcelona metropolitan area, therefore, the taxi driver who works with said application is exposed to fines of up to 2,000 euros and the loss of the license .

Elite Taxi already assured that if Uber complied with the announcement of operating again in Barcelona as of March 16, they would respond with mobilizations during the celebration of the Mobile World Congress, scheduled from June 28 to July 1.

As we have been able to verify throughout the morning, in the Uber application there were no taxis available when requesting one, except at 12:33 hours, if there was one that could perform the service.
