While Apple unveiled its new products a few days ago, it became clear that one of the company’s most important manufacturing partners was the target of a successful hacker attack. It is the world’s largest laptop manufacturer Quanta, and the attack was carried out by the Russian group REvil, which managed to steal a large amount of information. It contains many diagrams and drawings of Apple products, including future ones, Mobile Bulgaria reports.
The hackers asked Quanta for $ 50 million, but the company refused, prompting REvil to start contacting Apple directly. The group posted more than 20 screenshots of MacBook schemes online and threatened to release new ones every day until it received the ransom demanded. The hackers gave Apple until May 1 to buy the information and said they were negotiating with other major brands. The company produces laptops for companies such as HP, Dell, Microsoft, Toshiba, LG and Lenovo, so the theft can be quite large.
Meanwhile, hackers shared a schematic of a new MacBook Pro laptop, which is in line with previous rumors about the addition of more ports and a MagSafe charging system, as well as the removal of the Touch Bar touch screen. The images also suggest the presence of a body with more rounded corners. Among the leaked files are schematics of the new iMac, which were not known before its release this week.
