Peugeot 208 took the crown of Volkswagen Golf in Europe

Peugeot 208 continues to enjoy great interest in Europe and ranks first in sales in 44 markets on the Old Continent in the first quarter of 2021, according to data from Focus2Move.

The chic French little man made 54,870 sales in the first three months and moved two places ahead in the rankings. The result for the period is 18.8% better than in the first quarter of last year.

Volkswagen Golf, which held the first place for most of the years after its introduction in the distant 1974, fell to second place with a total of 52,456 sales (-22.3%).

Renault Clio, which had managed to take the crown earlier last year, fell by two places. Of these, 49,155 units were sold (-11.1%). The fourth position is for Toyota Yaris, which climbs six places and marks 49,155 sales (42.4%). In fifth place is the Citroen C3 with 45,437 sales (+ 25.3%).

Followed by Peugeot 2008 (45 338, + 91.7%), Volkswagen Tiguan (43 144, + 5.8%), Dacia Sandero (42 934, + 39.3%) and Skoda Octavia (43 694, + 41%) . In tenth place we find Fiat Panda with 42,045 sales (+ 41%).

Sales in Europe remain low

Sales of new cars in Bulgaria in March 2021 amounted to 2,155 units, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA). Compared to March 2020, when the first restrictive measures against the coronavirus were introduced, they increased by 33.9%. But compared to March 2019, they remain 40% lower. Thus, this March is the weakest since 2014

At European Union level, registrations increased by 87.3% in March compared to the same period last year. In the third month of this year, 1.062 million new cars were registered, compared to 567 thousand a year earlier.

Italy, where the coronavirus first attacked, rose 497.2 percent in March from a year earlier. In France the increase is 191.7%, in Spain 128% and in Germany – 35.95.

For the first quarter of 2021, total sales in the EU increased by 3.2% to a total of 2.6 million. For Bulgaria there is a decrease from 5.8% to 5,584.

Stellantis catches up with the VW Group

For the period VW Group maintains its leading position in the European Union with a total of 269 thousand sales of models from Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi, Seat, Porsche and others. However, the new union between Peugeot and Fiat, which also includes Citroen, Opel, Jeep, Alfa Romeo and others, breathes in the neck of the German group with 251 thousand sales.

Far in third place is the Renault Group with just under 100,000 sales. They are followed by Hyundai Group with 76 thousand sales, BWM Group with 71 thousand, Daimler with 64 thousand and Toyota Group with 60 thousand.

At the bottom of the list are the Japanese Mitsubishi and Honda, which sold 5,862 and 3,431 units, respectively.
