The Autonomous Federation of Professional Firefighters and Administrative, Technical and Specialized Staff (FA / SPP-PATS), the majority union in Côte-d’Or, does not want firefighters to participate in the vaccination campaign. In a national press release published Wednesday April 21 and relayed by France Blue Dijon, the union explains the reasons for their refusal to administer vaccines against Covid-19.
Training deemed too short
First, the issue of training preoccupies the Federation. If the firefighters were indeed able to learn how to deliver the precious doses of the vaccine, this training would have lasted only “Twice two hours”, according to the union representative in the department. A duration which is considered insufficient to carry out “A medical act which engages the responsibility of the one who performs it”. The union also believes that the firefighters are already “Over-requested” by their daily missions.
A pay gap
Finally, according to the union, the question of remuneration arises. “A firefighter costs nine times less than a doctor and five times less than a nurse. So, health emergency or budget savings? “, ask its representatives. If the union is to be believed, a doctor would vaccinate for € 880 per day, € 440 per day for a nurse and € 96 per day for a firefighter.
