The tour begins in a first room dedicated to the History of Holy Week in Seville, which will span from the origins in the fourteenth century to the present day. Everything will start from the Guiding Cross of the Brotherhood of the Carretería -the oldest that procession in Holy Week- symbolizing the beginning of a brotherhood that will explore the roots and the most recent heritage through this sample.
Next, visitors pass through a room dedicated to the ornamental sculpture. Here they will contemplate from the last figures of José María Leal for the Hermandad del Cachorro to the top works of La Roldana, Ruiz de Gijón or Antonio Barbero, among others.
The third room is dedicated to the goldsmith. Formed by works from the late nineteenth century to pieces from current workshops. This shows us that art is still present in our city and has not lost importance, quality or artistic value in our society.
The jewelry will also have a special presence in ‘In Nomine Dei’. Here the visitor will be able to enjoy the “room of the crowns” where some of the most representative medals of Holy Week will be displayed together. There are those of Amargura, Esperanza de Triana or Los Ángeles de los Negritos, among others. In addition to headbands from the Soledad de San Lorenzo, the Piedad de la Mortaja or the Virgen de las Aguas del Museo.
The embroidery star in the fifth room. The visitor will closely contemplate fronts of canopies, Simpecados, Horns, etc., and the embroidery that accompany these wonderful instruments made from the 18th century to the present day.
In the sixth room, the public will enjoy one of the most visual spaces of the show: that of the secondary figure imagery. From the Cirineo de San Isidoro to the Angel of the Resurrection, passing through the Santos Men de la Carretería, among others. Very outstanding works are brought together that bear the signature of distinguished authors such as Roldán, Astorga, Buiza or Álvarez Duarte.
The last room will be the one dedicated to pallium passage in Seville. In the central courtyard of Cajasol there is a complete canopy of the Virgen del Patrocinio del Cachorro. Around it, there are backdrops and canopy ceilings, some only represented by the fronts; others will carry the poles, the vent and the front skirt with them; and others will carry all the falls of the canopy. The aim is to show the different styles of the pallium steps in Seville.
There will also be cloaks output of images such as the Virgin of Patrocinio, the “shrimp man” of Macarena, the Virgin of Loreto, the Anguish of the Students, the Star, the Virgin of Remedies or the Soledad of San Buenaventura.
During this extensive exhibition, visitors can also see pieces and works from outside Seville that were once part of Seville’s Holy Week, such as the mantle of the Virgen de los Dolores de Huelva -ancient del Valle- or the front frame of the Virgen de la Palma de Cádiz -antigua de los Negritos-, among others.
To all this, we must add the “Sounds of Seville” that will form the backbone of the exhibition from room to room, so that the public is immersed even more in the sense of this historic exhibition carried out by and for Seville.
