In the camp, 31 structures are to be demolished in the training area and in the East Camp. These are dilapidated, partly in danger of collapsing residential, commercial, storage and auxiliary buildings, which are mostly empty. Some of them are heavily contaminated with pollutants and asbestos. New building land is being created on the vacated space without the forest having to be cleared.

There is no monument protection for the buildings, but there is a professional assessment of the monument properties from a study by the US Garrison Bavaria. In the course of the study, the city of Grafenwöhr will also be heard. The building committee approved the demolition plans without any objections.

“Yes” to development plans

The city of Auerbach has decided on the project-related development plans “Untere Bergstrasse”, “Solarpark Ortlesbrunn” and “Wohnanlage Meiergraben”. As a neighboring municipality, Grafenwöhr has to be formally involved in the registration process, but does not raise any objections.

The same applies to the project-related development plan “On the road to Mantel” of the Weiherhammer community. A company is planning an elaborate building complex for a kindergarten, crèche, day care, night care, short-term care, outpatient assisted living communities, rooms for science and research, guest apartments, serviced apartments, assisted living, a meeting center and an inclusive café.

Fiber optic distribution boxes

Mayor Edgar Knobloch (CSU) informed about the imminent installation of additional distribution boxes for fiber optics by a telecommunications company in the “Ochsenhut” area, in Bierlohstrasse, at the brewhouse in Neue Amberger Strasse and in Markweg.

Cut annoying hedges

Conny Spitaler (SPD) asked about the possibility of having hedges cut to size on private plots that disrupt the view in traffic. The public order office takes care of that, and the answer is that they write to those responsible.

Corona tests before meetings

  • In the future, all city councils should be tested before meetings.
  • The city has specially ordered a number of rapid tests and distributes them to the councils.
  • The tests are voluntary and subject to self-regulation. (sne)
