A 28-year-old man caused a traffic accident in Bretten on Sunday night and then fled from the scene of the accident in his unlit and damaged vehicle. Witnesses had read the license plate and called the police. They were later able to determine the still unlit vehicle on federal highway 35 near Knittlingen after calling further witnesses. The alleged driver and cause of the accident was still in the vehicle. He was apparently unharmed, but was probably under the influence of narcotics. He put up considerable resistance when he was arrested and during police operations.
The 28-year-old suspect apparently wanted to turn his Toyota from Carl-Neff-Strasse into Pforzheimer Strasse around 10:30 p.m. In doing so, he disregarded the right of way of a 52-year-old driving out of town on Pforzheimer Straße. The accident resulted in property damage of around 2500 euros. Subsequently, after initial investigations, the alleged cause of the accident turned in a dead end and then left the scene of the accident without permission. According to witnesses, after the turning maneuver with his unlit car, he endangered the victims of the accident who were protecting the accident site. Obviously, the only way to save himself was to leap aside. Then the alleged cause of the accident drove on with his unlit vehicle.
A little later, other witnesses reported a broken down vehicle on the B35 near Knittlingen. The arriving police officers were able to find the badly damaged and no longer drivable Toyota around 11 p.m., which was apparently involved in the accident on Carl-Neff-Strasse. The 28-year-old alleged driver vehemently resisted his arrest and kicked the four police officers. With their combined strength, they managed to fix the man on the ground and clasp his hands. One police officer was slightly injured. Since the suspect had previously stated that he had consumed narcotics and further evidence confirmed this information, blood was drawn from him at the police station. Here, too, he vehemently defended himself and injured himself when he was taken to a detention cell. He had to be treated by paramedics to take care of his injury. Then he had himself so much under control that he could be released.
He will be reported after the investigation has been completed, and measures have been taken to comply with the law on driving licenses.
