Osakidetza has confirmed the first case of the Brazilian covid strain in the Basque Country and also two of the South African variant that were being analyzed since last week, all of them imported and with the “identified and controlled” chain of transmission.
The Minister of Health, Gotzone Sagardui, has released these data in the press appearance after the meeting of the Basque Government Council, in which he once again called for prudence due to the slowdown in the evolution of the pandemic , since the accumulated incidence in 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants has increased slightly in Gipuzkoa and Álava and the basic reproductive number stands at 0.88.
“It is necessary to see how the evolution of the next days goes”, has indicated the counselor, who nevertheless has specified that in previous occasions there have been “small rebounds” that later continue with downward trends.
Regarding vaccination, he explained that 133,596 doses have already been administered, of which 48,495 are the second, and that once the centenarians have been finished, with a total of 886 injected, they have also started with the older ones 90 years old, of which 290 have already been inoculated.
Sagardui has said that it is not ruled out offering vaccination spaces in Álava and Bizkaia such as the one in the Illumbe bullring in San Sebastián, but that in any case the decision will depend on the number of vaccines that arrive in Euskadi and the march of the process at that location in the capital of Gipuzkoa.
