Schoolchildren in NRW return to classrooms

School closed, school open: This week, many children and young people in North Rhine-Westphalia are allowed to come to the classrooms again – at least alternately. However, this does not apply to the numerous municipalities with an excessively high corona incidence.

After a week of lessons at home, many children and young people in North Rhine-Westphalia can now go back to face-to-face classes in their schools. However, this does not apply in cities and districts with excessively high new corona infection rates from a permanent incidence of 200.

The state has expressly named 15 of the 53 municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia that are sticking to distance teaching: Duisburg, Gelsenkirchen, Hagen, Herne, Krefeld, Märkischer Kreis, Mettmann, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Oberbergischer Kreis, Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, City of Remscheid, District of Siegen -Wittgenstein, the city of Solingen, the district of Unna and the city of Wuppertal. In addition, as of Sunday afternoon, Dortmund, Hamm and Bonn as well as the Recklinghausen and Gütersloh districts continued to suspend on-site lessons due to excessive corona numbers. Bielefeld announced that it would introduce distance learning from Tuesday.

Corona testing is mandatory in face-to-face operations: All students and staff must be tested twice a week. Despite demands to the contrary from the opposition and from parents and teachers’ associations, the self-tests are not carried out at home, but under supervision in schools.
