Ukraine accuses Moscow of blackmail over the expulsion of an employee of the Russian embassy in Kiev.
Ukraine will expel a senior diplomat, one of the advisers to the Russian embassy in Kiev, Chernikov, in response to the detention and expulsion of the Ukrainian consul in St. Petersburg, Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Yenin said on the Ukraine 24 channel.
“His surname is Chernikov. And the corresponding note will be sent to the Russian embassy tomorrow,” Yenin said.
According to him, this person was selected with the aim of “weakening the Russian institution as much as possible.”
As Yenin noted, Kiev “heard a certain blackmail” from Moscow due to the expulsion of an embassy employee.
“We are told that if you insist on declaring an employee of the embassy, and not one of the consulates, persona non grata, then we will have to declare persona non grata an employee of your own embassy in Moscow,” the Deputy Foreign Minister said.
Recall that on April 16 in St. Petersburg detained Ukrainian consul Oleksandr Sosonyuk… The FSB of Russia claims that he was detained “while receiving information of a classified nature during a meeting with a citizen of the Russian Federation.” At the same time, Ukraine said that it was actually an attack.-
