Launched in 2012, it will finally become reality in 2022. The site is 68.8% co-financed, in particular by the National Agency for Urban Renovation (ANRU) for 4.2 million euros, the Region for 1 million euros, the Local Investment Support Grant (DSIL) for € 550,000, the Department of Finistère for nearly € 520,000, the Drac for € 90,000 and sponsorship for € 71,600. Morlaix community finances the remaining 3 million euros.
About ten employees
But once in operation, how much will the equipment cost? “The operation is estimated at € 600,000 per year,” says Jean-Paul Vermot, president of Morlaix community. A cost that cannot be covered by the entrances or the Science Space shop. “The Regional Council, Morlaix community and the City of Morlaix will contribute”, explains the elected.
In total, around ten people will be employed by the structure. Three are already at work: Marie-Laure Brandily (manager), Tiphaine Lastennet (mediator) and Anaïs Guilbault (communication manager).
40,000 people per year
At present, Morlaix community expects an attendance of between 30,000 and 40,000 people each year. For comparison, the Rennes Science Center receives 200,000 visitors per year. “It’s a low range. We hope, given the quality of the equipment, to attract far beyond our territory. Because it should be remembered: often places of this type focus on the sciences whereas here we have really integrated the industrial history of the places, ”explains Julien Kerguillec, elected in Morlaix community responsible for culture.
