A number of relaxations will take effect from tomorrow, Monday. The catering terraces will not open again until later, on 8 May. But only under two important conditions, as Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit) has repeated on the French-language TV channels.

Prime Minister De Croo already emphasized it at the press conference after the Consultation Committee. Yet apparently it has not yet penetrated everyone. The terraces of the catering industry can open again on May 8, but then two conditions must be met, otherwise nothing will come of it.
Seven in ten over-65s must have been vaccinated and protected, and the situation in hospitals must have improved considerably. Minister of Health Frank Vendenbroucke confirmed this on the French-language TV channels on Sunday morning.
The minister is not too concerned about the vaccination. In the next two weeks, it has only been learned, our country will receive 1.2 million doses of vaccines.
Improving the situation in hospitals “in a sustainable way” is a different matter. The health minister indicated that there are currently only 92 intensive care beds available nationwide. That is less than one bed per hospital. That’s not good. “I’m not just going to play on the numbers. It is a trade-off that has to be made on the basis of various parameters ”, he said.
What is certain is that the situation in hospitals, both the number of new patients and the number of patients in intensive wards, must improve. Otherwise, a new serious disappointment threatens for the catering industry.
