Two British warships set sail for the Black Sea in May, according to Sunday’s The Times, citing a source in the British navy. This is a gesture of support for Ukraine and NATO in the region against the background of the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border.
According to the publication, it is a destroyer and a frigate. The two ships will be separated from the Navy’s strike group in the Mediterranean and will enter the Black Sea via the Bosphorus.
The newspaper explains that the decision was made in support of Ukraine after the US Department of Defense abandoned the planned sending of two destroyers to avoid further tensions in the region and not to provoke Russia.
It is noted that in the event of a threat from Russia, Britain intends to send other military equipment to the region.
Western European countries have repeatedly expressed concern over the recent statements by the Ukrainian military about the accumulation of troops at the border by Russia. According to President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the relocation of troops to Russia should not bother other countries.
