Indianapolis Shooter Could Legally Buy Guns Despite Psychological Problems | NOW

The 19-year-old gunman of the massacre at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis, USA, has legally acquired the two semi-automatic weapons he used to shoot eight people. According to police chief Randal Taylor, the suspect, Brandon Hole, bought the guns just a few months after police confiscated a gun from him.

Hole was struggling with psychological problems and had already been in contact with the authorities in March 2020. His mother had then called the police to warn of her son’s possible violent plans. At the time, agents confiscated a gun from the man.

Despite this, in July and September 2020, Hole was able to legally purchase the semi-automatic weapons with which he caused the massacre at the FedEx facility, Taylor announced.

The police chief suspects that the authorities did not go to a judge in response to that incident to label the man as a potential risk case. In that case, the judge can decide to deny someone the right to a weapon for a certain period of time.

Taylor was unsure whether such a hearing took place. But the rifle that the police had previously taken has never been returned. “I don’t know why we kept it, but it’s a good thing we did,” said Taylor.

Hole was a former FedEx employee and is said to have worked at the facility in the fall of 2020 where he shot eight people on Thursday evening (local time) before killing himself. Several people were injured. The victims include several Sikhs who worked at the site. According to the police, the incident lasted at most a few minutes and was already over once officers arrived.
