ZUIDLAREN – B&W propose to the municipal council to further investigate the possibilities of an extension of the ring road De Voorkampen in Zuidlaren around the PBH site. This means that two other variants for a ring road around the village have been dropped: a long variant around the site, as much as possible on existing roads, and a shortcut over the rear of the future residential area on the PBH site.
Research has shown that the long variant simply yields too little. In too few situations it is an attractive alternative to drive through the Stationsweg in Zuidlaren, which is why it would be used relatively little.
A road across the back of the PBH site is too harmful for the enjoyment of living there. The researchers even speak of “disruptive on a spatial, traffic engineering and social level”.
What remains: a ring road that connects earlier to the roads of the PBH site.
Important
The research shows that the importance of a ring road is quite great. Without a ring road, traffic will increase substantially on Stationsweg in particular, due to the autonomous growth of car traffic, but also due to the buildings that will be built on the PBH site. In addition, a ring road reduces the traffic on several other roads in the center, in particular the route Brink-OZ- de Millystraat – Hunzeweg. The road can also play a role in opening up the PBH site.
Further research
The Commission now wants to investigate what the social, spatial and financial effects of a ring road would be. After all, it does not only want to look at the traffic-technical side of a ring road, on which the research has focused so far.
B&W also want to commission a study into good access to the front of the PBH site and the residential area that is planned at the rear of the PBH site, including on a ring road.
