Lack of social contacts “hardest to deal with”
Many young people especially miss their social contacts, friendly relationships. “That’s the hardest thing to do”says student Alexia Hack.
The fact that one suffers from a lack of meetings in clubs, cafés and bars was viewed critically by the general public, especially during the first six months of the pandemic, and met with little understanding.
Left alone by politics
It fits into this picture that young people also feel abandoned by politics. “We are not involved and there are no ideas to help us, for example to be in the school takes out the printing of grades and the degrees are adjusted “says student spokeswoman Börgermann.
No relation to the younger generation
Also the journalist Mirko Drotschmann, known as WDR- “MrWissen2Go“, complains that young people in politics do not have a lobby. “That is actually missing. For many politicians, the reality of life is completely different and there is no connection to the younger generation.”he said in the Newsroom-Livestream.
It is possible that politicians would be much more attentive to the needs and concerns of young people and learn to understand them if they were allowed to vote. Drotschmann: “I would like to see the voting age lowered – at least to 16 years.” There is also an interesting initiative by some members of the Bundestag and the former constitutional judge Paul Kirchhof for voting rights from the age of zero.
For Johanna Börgermann, however, something else has to change much faster than the right to vote: “We also need offers to deal with the crisis in discussions with psychologists, social workers. So that we get the feeling of being seen and perceived.”
