After months of dispute and cross statements, it has finally been confirmed who will testify at the beginning of the legal battle Come in Apple and Epic Games. The CEOs of both companies, Tim Cook Y Tim Sweeney respectively, they are called to testify in the diligence that will begin in May.
In case you didn’t know, the legal dispute between Apple and Epic Games occurred due to the departure of Fortnite from App Store iPhone. In mid-2020, the Battle Royale began implementing in-game microtransactions outside of the official store payment platform.
Seeing the situation, Apple decided to withdraw the title of its platform because its terms indicated that all internal purchases of a game had to be made through it. Given this situation, Epic Games decided to respond with a direct trial before different international entities, where it accused Cupertino of monopoly Y anti-competitiveness.
Months after the trial between the two companies began, a report from GamesIndustry.biz provided a preliminary list of witnesses to be presented by each.
The report indicates that Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, as well as Tim Sweeney, director of Epic, will be present at the diligence that will begin next May 3.
It is estimated that the process will last approximately three weeks and that the presentation of the CEO of Apple would last up to two hours. For his part, Sweeney is obliged to explain the history of his company along with other details such as business models, deals, communications with Cupertino, etc. This could extend your participation up to eight hours.
The trial will also include the participation of executives from other companies such as Facebook, Microsoft, Nvidia and more. They will be present to validate the testimonies of Apple y Epic Games.
