New York / Dresden (dpa / sn) – The cellist and artistic director Jan Vogler considers model projects for concerts to be an important step on the way to normalizing the music business in the corona pandemic. You could help to gain important experience for the future, said Vogler of the German press agency in Dresden. “If we as citizens want to survive this pandemic emotionally, we now have to fight for culture in our everyday lives. After living with COVID-19 for over twelve months, we have learned a lot and with tests, follow-ups and vaccinations we have effective means to hold cultural events safely.”

Vogler, who as the artistic director of the Dresden Music Festival and director of the Moritzburg Festival alternately lives in New York and Dresden and performs internationally as a soloist, supported the demands of the German Orchestra Association (DOV) to improve the Infection Protection Act. “In compliance with all hygiene regulations, cultural events must be able to take place in the open air, so that at least summer time can be used for concerts and other formats,” DOV Managing Director Gerald Mertens emphasized on Friday. Pilot projects should also continue to be possible.

“We all need existentially hope, light and consolation in our lives to convey these feelings – that’s what music is made for,” emphasized Vogler.
