The DRK blood donation service has again pointed out that there is no increased risk of infection for blood donors. The appointment allocation, which has been in effect for all blood donation appointments since January, strengthens the entire security concept. “The blood donation service provides up-to-date information about the general conditions, possible exclusion criteria and much more about blood donation.” Reports Stephan Jorewitz from the Center for Transfusion Medicine in Hagen and advises: “Before donors set out, we recommend taking a look at the website of the blood donation service and ask expressly to reserve an appointment in advance at blutspende.jetzt and to wear a medical mask. ”Interested parties can obtain further information and appointments free of charge by calling 0800-1194911.
“Medical mask” is defined according to § 3 paragraph 1 of the Corona Protection Ordinance NRW as follows: “Medical masks are so-called surgical masks, masks of the FFP2 standard or masks comparable to these (KN95 / N95).”
In order to protect against infection, the blood donation service asks that you refrain from accompanying people and use your own ballpoint pen. Blood donors are not tested for corona – there is no evidence that the coronavirus can be transmitted through blood. At the moment, instead of hospitality at the end of the blood donation, there is a small snack as a “lunch-to-go”. Anyone over the age of 18 can donate blood; New donors up to their 69th birthday. An official photo ID must always be brought with you when donating blood. Men may donate blood six times and women four times within a twelve-month period. There must be 56 days between two blood donations. For those who want to find out more about blood donation dates near their home, the DRK Blood Donation Service West has set up a free hotline in the Donor Service Center. All questions are answered on 0800 -11 949 11 Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donations can be made from Tuesday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Spendecenter Hagen at Feithstraße 180.
