Hertha BSC missed a win against Mainz 05. The blue-whites did not get past a 0-0 on Tuesday evening in the Olympic Stadium. Although the Bruno Labbadia team had more possession than the guests for long stretches, they hardly had any scoring opportunities. The Rheinhessen kidnapped therefore deserved one point from the capital.

The course of the game
Hertha took control of the game right from the start. With a lot of possession, the blue-whites pushed the guests from Mainz into their own half – but without earnings. For a long time, the Labbadia-Elf did not come near the goal of Robin Zentner, let alone opportunities. Mainz was compact and defended securely. Almost symbolic of this, the first better opportunity arose for Hertha after a standard situation. Striker Krzysztof Piatek narrowly missed a Plattenhardt free kick (32nd minute) from the left in the middle.
By far the best opportunity in the first half belonged to the Rheinhessen. After a cross from the right side, attacker Karim Onisiwo came to the end in the middle (40th), but the ball hit the crossbar – luck for Hertha.
Even after the break, the Charlottenburg had a hard time. The next chance belonged again to the guests. Kevin Stöger just missed the Mainz lead eight minutes after the restart. Hertha did not continue to play single-mindedly enough, more and more desperate to defend the 05er. Labbadia reacted, brought in Dodi Lukebakio for Javairo Dilrosun a new player for the offensive and with Maxi Mittelstädt for Marvin Plattenhardt a new force for the left wing (61.). Hertha was not much more powerful even with these changes. The game of the blue-whites remained too imprecise, especially around the Mainz penalty area. The game ended in a fair 0-0 draw.

The short analysis
In the beginning it looked like it would be a typical game of patience for Hertha BSC. The Labbadia-Elf acted safely, had control of the game and much more possession than Mainz – 86 percent (!) In the first quarter of an hour. But the blue-whites did not succeed in converting the numerical superiority into scoring chances. The Charlottenburg team was too imprecise and unstructured on the offensive for the entire 90 minutes, and especially in the last third of the field, the passes rarely reached the teammates.
Although the Labbadia-Elf came quickly into the Mainz half through counterattacks a few times in the second half, they messed up the ball at the latest with the last pass. The best chances belonged to the guests: Onisiwo (40th) and Stöger (58th) had promising opportunities, but just missed them. In the end there was a fair 0-0 draw on the scoreboard in the Olympic Stadium. A result with which Hertha can hardly be satisfied against the table penultimate.
