The GACH will analyze the impact of the Sinovac vaccine against the P1 strain in the region

As Subrayado learned, there are primary data from Chile and Brazil that indicate a decrease in the number of elderly people requiring hospitalization after having contracted the virus.

These data, the sources said, are very premature and do not yet allow conclusions to be drawn, although they are encouraging.

The P1 variant of the Covid, which arose in Manaus, Brazil, is the predominant one in that country and has already been detected in 16 departments of Uruguay, according to what the director general of health of the MSP Miguel Asqueta reported on Thursday in the program Arriba Gente of channel 10 .

For this reason, the objective of the GACH is to obtain information and buy data on the impact it is beginning to have in Brazil and in other countries in the region, such as Chile, where the Sinovac vaccine is used. In Chile it is vaccinated with Sinovac and with Pfizer. In Brazil they use Sinovac, Pfizer and AstraZeneca.

According to the international site OurWorld in Data, in Chile 26% of the population was vaccinated with a full dose, while in Brazil it is 3.3%.

So far, existing scientific studies indicate that the Sinovac vaccine remains effective against the P1 variant.
