The British royal family: – – Breaks years of tradition to spare Harry

Although we already know that Prince Philips’ funeral next Saturday will be of the toned-down kind, there is still great excitement around the sad day.

The deceased prince, who was the husband of Queen Elizabeth (94), is said to have had a desire for a more secluded funeral, without “pomp and splendor” – that is, a contrast to how a royal funeral tends to be.

Now several newspapers also write that more traditions will be broken on the day of the funeral. according to The Guardian no members of the royal family will wear military uniforms.

This should be out of respect for Prince Harry (36) who last year withdrew from his royal duties. At the same time, the prince lost several titles and support from the royal family. Normally, both Prince Charles (72), Prince William (38), Princess Anne (70) and Prince Edward (57) would have posed in military uniform.

– The queen is behind

Prior to the shock decision to retire, Prince Harry, who had served in the British Army for a decade, held titles such as Captain General of the Royal Navy and Honorary Commander of the Royal Air Force.

Now that Prince Harry no longer has his military titles, he can no longer wear a military uniform. Thus, he risked becoming the only man in the royal family who did not pose in military uniform at the funeral.

According to Sky News the decision must have been made by the queen herself – to avoid an unpleasant situation for the prince. Thus, it is expected that the male part of the royal family will wear a suit instead.

Prince Philip is buried in St. George’s Chapel in Windsor at 16.00 Norwegian time next Saturday. The prince died last Friday, aged 99.

Maximum 30 guests

The royal funeral is greatly scaled down due to the pandemic, and a maximum of 30 guests can therefore be present when the royal family says a final goodbye to the prince.

A guest list is expected to be released on Thursday. It has already been confirmed that neither Duchess Meghan (39) nor British Prime Minister Boris Johnson (56) will attend.

According to BBC the prince’s coffin will be transported from the royal family’s private chapel in Windsor and down to St. George’s Chapel shortly before the ceremony begins on Saturday.

The coffin will be covered with a number of elements representing the prince’s life, including his own flag showing his affiliation with Greece, Denmark, Edinburgh and the Mountbatten family.

A sailor hat and a sword are also some of the items that will adorn the coffin.

According to the BBC, members of the royal family – including Prince Charles (72) – are expected to go behind the coffin. Queen Elizabeth gets to the chapel on her own.

The British Armed Forces will also be strongly represented in the ceremony. Prince Philip even served in the British Navy during World War II.
