These are the benefits of consuming dates for health

PURWAKARTA, AYOPURWAKARTA.COM – One of the things that is synonymous with the holy month of Ramadan are dates. One reason is that consuming dates at dawn or breaking the fast is one of the habits exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad.

Behind the sweet taste, dates are also nutritious and have many health benefits. A study in the Journal of Pharmacy & BioAllied Sciences reveals that dates are a source of natural antioxidants that are good for health.

In addition, dates also contain anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial compounds. Another study in the British Journal of Nutrition revealed that dates can help support digestive tract health.

In a different study, researchers revealed that the consumption of dates has a good effect on blood sugar and blood fat control. This study involved 100 men and women with type 1 diabetes.

They were divided into two groups, where the first group did not consume dates at all and the second group consumed three dates every day for 16 weeks.

Participants in the group who consumed dates experienced a significant reduction in total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. The HbA1c value, which illustrates the blood sugar control of the participants in the second group, also did not appear to change even though dates are a sweet fruit.

“The group that consumed dates also experienced improvements in mental health and overall quality of life,” explained nutritionist Cynthia Sass MPH RD, as reported by Health.

With these various advantages, it is not surprising that dates are one of the favorite takjil of Muslims when breaking their fast.
