This Monday, December 21, the winter. From the Laboratory of Climatology of the University of Alicante explain that the modeling for these next few months indicates that we will have a winter “very warm“in terms of temperatures and”very dry“in terms of rainfall.
Of course, it must be taken into account that in the Mediterranean area any intense “extreme” event can alter all this modeling, especially from the rainfall point of view.
In the face of the Christmas holidays, everything indicates that the province of Alicante will continue to be under anticyclonic conditions, therefore, a stable time is expected. The director of the UA Climatology Laboratory, Jorge Olcina explains that we will experience cold nights and the possibility of frosts in the regions of the interior of the province. During the rest of the day a sunny environment and pleasant temperatures are expected.
Regarding the balance of this fall that ends today, Olcina explains that it has been one of the driest that has been recorded in the province. Alicante and the Vinalopó have been the regions where it has rained the least during 2020. On the other hand, he adds that the region of Under Segura, which is traditionally a region of drought, the storms left significant rainfall at the beginning of the year that make the balance neutral, he explains.

– “We have not benefited from the storm rains that have fallen in abundance in the provinces of Valencia Y Castellón; Alicante has been a bit on the sidelines and that is why autumn, which is an essential season to collect rain, has been really dry “, admits the climatologist. Olcina adds that “the year had started very well, we had the storm Gloria in January, which left a lot of precipitation in the form of water and snow, in March we had days of abundant rain but since then the rainfall has been scarce. ” –
