According to the preliminary results of the ARD (as of 00:01), the SPD won the state election in Rhineland-Palatinate. The party led by Prime Minister Malu Dreyer received 35.7 percent of the vote, while the CDU received 27.7 percent. The third strongest force was the Greens with 9.3 percent, followed by the AfD with 8.3 percent. The FDP was 5.5 percent.

Election results in Rhineland-Palatinate: SPD prevails against CDU
For the state election in 2021, Rhineland-Palatinate was subdivided into four districts and, for the first time, into 52 constituencies. The constituency of Bad Dürkheim is the largest of them with 69,757 eligible voters.

Turnout by 12 noon was 52 percent
Whether the SPD would again be the strongest force in the country or whether the CDU could prevail was still open in advance. In the polls of the past few days, both parties were on par. The survey by the research group “Elections for the ZDF” published on Thursday then recorded a small lead for the SPD.

By noon on Sunday, 52 percent of those eligible to vote had already cast their votes. Due to the high number of postal voters, the polling stations remained comparatively quiet. In the last state election in 2016, the turnout was 70.4 percent.
