In Ukraine, prices at gas stations may rise significantly in May. At the same time, gasoline, diesel fuel and autogas may be in short supply.
This is stated in OBOZREVATEL material… There are several reasons why the market situation may deteriorate. The main ones are:
Fuel shortage. Hitch in supply chain from Rosneft is almost the main problem of the market. After searches in the Glusco network, which is associated with the People’s Deputy from OLEZh Viktor Medvedchuk, its parent company Proton Energy Group SA actually stopped working.
“There was hope for a quick replacement of Proton Energy, which had been selling these resources since 2016, but today there is no clarity with the new trader,” says the director of A-95 Consulting Group. Sergey Kuyun. By May, the reserves of diesel fuel, of which there are supposedly a lot (but no one knows how much), will run out. “And now the market will need to find … 300 thousand tons of diesel fuel (almost 50% of the balance) and at least 40 thousand tons of liquefied gas (25% of the market). Believe me, this is a lot,” the expert explains.
Market unpredictability. In such a situation, as the director of A-95 Consulting Group says, it is difficult to predict the course of events. “There will be a shortage of liquefied gas. And what is liquefied gas? They switched to it in order to save on gasoline. And when there will be a shortage of gas, the demand for gasoline will increase… How will it be covered? It may be easier for someone to sell only to select customers at all.“, – explained Kuyun.
Limited sale. Former President of the Association of Oil Products Market Operators of Ukraine Leonid Kosyanchuk also believes that sales in Ukraine may be limited. Then only the elite will be able to refuel. “In April, we will still be able to hold out on stocks that were previously made by wholesalers. But there may already be a problem in May. If fuel is in short supply, sales may be limited and the price will be slightly different“, – says the expert.
