All night they return furniture to the emptied white parliament building for the celebration

They polish the plenary hall, which has been locked for half a year, and test the lighting. And the statement stand is being reassembled

A brigade of workers carried furniture all night on Tuesday against Wednesday so that the white building on National Assembly Square could reopen to MPs. On Thursday, those elected to the 45th National Assembly will hear their first bell in it.

On their first day, however, they will have to “live” on the sidelines and in the parliamentary buffet, as the groups do not have cabinets there. After parliament moved to the former Party House last summer, part of the administration was housed in the old building. In the room of GERB is now the commission on education, and in the former BSP – the one on culture. The Council of Presidents of the new parliament must decide where the deputies will sit in the future.

And most of the furniture from the old building was moved to the Party House for use by MPs there. Now everything has been returned as a matter of urgency – armchairs, sofas and chairs have been moved to the corridors on Tuesday night. The buffet is again tidy and loaded, ready to welcome the new deputies.

The windows were washed, and on Wednesday vacuum cleaners could be heard all over the building – cleaners mostly cleaned the carpet in the corridors.

The “shining” was again the plenary hall, which has been locked for half a year. Technicians tested her lighting. The monitors in it were returned as a matter of urgency. Due to the lack of an electronic system, Wednesday’s vote will be by show of hands. And if the new leadership of the National Assembly decides to return to the old building, then the electronic system will have to be installed again, which was also transferred to the new plenary hall.

Disinfectants have been loaded, and the deputies will have to wear masks both in the plenary hall and in the corridors.

The rostrum for speeches on the sidelines was also returned. On the first day of the new parliament, however, journalists will be locked in the West Hall on the second floor of the building. The administration explained this with anti-epidemic measures. However, a specific time has been set for the media to enter the building so that they do not meet with the deputies on the sidelines.

The solemn sitting of the 45th parliament will be opened by Mika Zaykova from “There is such a people”, who is a doyen in this term. After her speech, the deputies will take the oath. Until recently, it was discussed on Wednesday whether the oath of those under quarantine due to COVID-19, which will be online, will be at the same time as the others or be after them due to the discrepancy in the sound when the signal is delayed. Besides Slavi Trifonov, Atanas Kostadinov from BSP and Halil Letifov from MRF will swear from home.

The agenda envisages that after the oath the leadership of the National Assembly will be elected, and then a commission will be formed for the adoption of the parliamentary rules. Finally, lawmakers are expected to gather on the steps in front of the building’s entrance for the traditional family photo.
