Because the suspect from Enschede is completely insane, he is released from all legal proceedings. This means that the court will not impose a punishment on him, but will – again – impose TBS. A psychiatrist and psychologist concluded that the autistic Van der B. developed a delusional disorder as a result of conflicts with the employees of the clinic.
The stabbing incident happened on September 7 last year in the staff room of the TBS clinic. “I have indeed stabbed,” Van der B. confessed in court two weeks ago. The victim had twelve stab wounds to the back, head, neck and shoulders. Witnesses told police afterwards that it appeared as if he had ‘hacked’ on her.
“He deliberately destroyed my life,” the victim told the court. She asked the court to impose a prison sentence on Van der B., in addition to the TBS order. “Without a prison sentence, it feels like my life is worthless. How far can insanity go? “
Van der B. must pay the victim compensation, the court ruled.
