A corresponding decision was made in the municipal council’s culture committee, as the office of the responsible city councilor Veronica Kaup-Hasler (SPÖ) announced on Wednesday. The Ute-Bock-Weg is a small connecting path between Windtenstrasse and Gußriegelstrasse, right next to the Eisring Süd. It is only a few minutes away from the Ute Bock house.
The Hilde-Sochor-Park is named after the chamber actress Hilde Sochor, who died in 2017. Sochor was a member of the Vienna Volkstheater ensemble for decades. The park now named after her is located in the 14th district in the area of Breitenseer Strasse and Hütteldorfer Strasse.
Parks named after Irma Schwager and Ruth Maier
Richard Tauber is remembered with a path in Liesing. The opera singer, who died in London in 1948, had to leave Austria at the time of National Socialism. Two parks in Leopoldstadt will commemorate the resistance fighter Irma Schwager and the Shoah victim Ruth Maier: The resistance fighter, politician and committed campaigner for women’s rights, Irma Schwager, will be honored with a park in the Obere Augartenstrasse area between Gaußplatz and Untere Augartenstrasse .
Ruth Maier, a victim of the Shoah, whose diaries were published posthumously, will also receive a park. The park is located in the Obere Donaustraße area between Roßauer Brücke and Augartenbrücke.
Alois-Mock-Gasse is being extended
An educational campus at Rappachgasse 44 in Simmering is named after the pioneer of elementary education Heidemarie Lex-Nalis. In addition, the portrait photographer Adele Perlmutter will be given a place in Leopoldstadt, the ceramist and designer Vally Wieselthier will have a park in the new building and film producer Elfi Dassanowsky will have a park in Hernals.
The Dietz-von-Weidenberg-Gasse between Mondsteinstrasse and Richard-Neutra-Gasse in Floridsdorf is dedicated to Dietz von Weidenberg. The traffic area in Döbling from Alois-Mock-Gasse to Grinzinger Straße will be extended to Alois-Mock-Gasse. Günther Goller is honored with the “Günther-Goller-Weg” as a long-time Landstraßer local councilor and member of the state parliament, city councilor and club chairman of the ÖVP Vienna.
Names already valid, street signs are still missing
Josef Prangl, teacher and entrepreneur, is honored with a street in Liesing. The Klagsbrunn family had to flee to Brazil before the National Socialists. Leopold, Friederike, Peter and Kurt Klagsbrunn are remembered with a path between Lokomotivgasse and Kreuzfeldgasse in Floridsdorf.
The park in the Danube city between Am Lange Felde and Bertha-von-Suttner-Gasse is named after the local politician Ernst Paul Zimper. And Penzing gets a Pluto path between Jupiterweg and Grenzweg after the largest dwarf planet. The new street signs will be put up in the course of the year, but with the decision in the culture committee the names are already valid.
