This Wednesday, April 14, the CNOSF unveiled the principle of designation of future flag carrier
At the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. To do this, the federations have appointed “ambassadors”: a woman and a man, who will be responsible for electing the flag bearers. Note that the athletes who are candidates for this election must also come from this list.
The French Sailing Federation will be represented by windsurfer Charline Picon and laserist Jean-Baptiste Bernaz. Reigning Olympic champion Charline Picon announces her candidacy today. The CNOSF will announce the names of the flag bearers of the 2021 French Olympic delegation in early July.
Charline Picon (gold medal in RS: X board in Rio in 2016): “ It would be an honor if French athletes wanted me to represent them. I am someone humble, discreet and above all in sharing. If it pleases the athletes of the France team and they recognize themselves, I will be delighted to represent them. This year the Games will be special, without an audience, the opening ceremony will probably be one of the most beautiful moments of the fortnight: a parenthesis of smiles and hope. I aspire to this, to send the world a beautiful message, especially since we will be a man and a woman on the same footing.
Obviously this is not trivial and I really took the time to think it over. My one and only objective of this Olympiad is to get a medal. If I am a flag bearer, I will take all the positive energy that will take me to the highest level. I believe in fate and in these events which will allow me to go for a second Olympic title. It is true that the opening ceremony is two days before my first regatta but it remains a unique opportunity and I think it can bring a lot to my sport. “
