Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – North Korea (Korut) reportedly is preparing to launch a nuclear weapon intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) this year. This happened as a form of Pyongyang’s maneuver so that Washington would want to continue its dialogue.
Quoted AFP, the report was submitted to the office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) for the United States (US). Intelligence assumes that the country led by Kim Jong Un is strengthening its position to become an important force that is recognized internationally.
“North Korean leader Kim Jong Un could take a number of aggressive and potentially destabilizing actions to reshape the regional security environment and encourage strife between the United States and its allies. This includes resuming testing of nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM),” the report said. (4/14/2021).
“We believe that Kim views nuclear weapons as a major deterrent to foreign intervention and believes that over time he will gain international acceptance and respect as a nuclear power.”
North Korea has not tested a long-range missile in more than three years. The country has also left the door open for talks with the US on denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.
There has been no confirmation from North Korea regarding this news. North Korea earlier said it had launched a new type of short-range tactical ballistic missile.
This also raised concerns that the communist country could fire its missiles anywhere, including at its rival South Korea (South Korea). Even last week, the US, South Korea and Japan held negotiations which agreed that the three of them would continue to be consistent in continuing to pressure North Korea in its nuclear development.
