Fraudsters impersonate Kristalina Georgieva and offer in e-mails to Bulgarians financial assistance in the amount of 100 thousand euros to compensate for the damage from the pandemic of COVID-19, announced the intended recipients from Shumen, Monitor writes.
The “lucky ones” are people holding middle positions in the middle echelon and with wide international contacts, participation in projects and so on. In addition to their connections, they also receive many emails, their addresses appear in various lists and are probably targeted as potential carp that could bite into offers for easy money.
“Dear friend, I am Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund.” – it is said in the address to the recipient. It is further explained that the address is included in the list of winners of 100 thousand euros, in each case written in words, as a crown compensation. There is a code, supposedly for Western Union, but the winner must write to “Kristalina” in order to send it further and an address through which he can get a hundred euro vouchers through the network for fast transfers. The address of the “managing director” of the IMF has a Russian domain.
The letter bears all the hallmarks of an attempt at phishing or fraud, but people who have not encountered such fraud could be bound.
