The Freiburg fire brigade was called to a fire in an underground car park in the Betzenhausen district shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday evening. A caller reported smoke development to the integrated control center via the Europe-wide emergency number 112 and suspected a smoldering fire.
The fire brigade, immediately alerted, discovered on site that there had been an expansion joint fire on the outside wall of the building. The smoke therefore moved from the outside into the associated underground car park.
Targeted extinguishing measures were initiated immediately and the adjacent stairwells and the underground car park were checked for further smoke spread. The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished. The smoke-filled areas of the cellar and the underground car park were then mechanically cleared of smoke using a ventilation device.
The professional fire brigade was supported in this operation by the fiefdom department of the volunteer fire brigade.
