In the middle of April, several important film festivals and film industry events will start in Lithuania, Switzerland and Germany one after the other, in which Latvian films, co-productions and film professionals will participate, the representatives of the National Film Center informed.
An online film industry event will take place from 14 April “Meeting Point Vilnius 2021”(“ MPV ”), which follows the Lithuanian festival“ Kino Pavasaris ”and focuses on upcoming film projects; It is structured in four sections, and Latvian film projects and their authors also participate in three of them.
The central program of “MPV” is “Coming Soon”, for which 25 projects have been selected from the applications of 35 countries, including two Latvian feature films – director Uģis Olte’s debut “Upurga” (producer Uldis Cekulis, “VFS Films”) and full-length feature film “Restless Minds” , with which brothers Lauris and Raitis Ābele (“Tritone Studio”) make their debut.

In the “Industry Screening Platform” program, where distribution agents, festival programmers and media representatives get acquainted with completed but not yet shown films, two of the eight selected projects are from Latvia – director Matīsa Kaža’s debut feature film “Where the Road Leads” (western with international title Wild East ”) and director Ivo Briežis’ documentary “Homo Sovieticus” (studio “Mistrus Media”).
The third section of “MPV” is “Talents Nest”, which opens and supports young film professionals by offering lectures, experience exchange and cooperation events, this year Latvian screenwriter Gleb Nagornij and producer Dominiks Jarmakovičs (“Studio Locomotive” and “Woodpecker Pictures”) participate.
One of the most important documentary film festivals in Europe, Visions du Réel (Switzerland, Nyon, April 15-25), which is taking place for the 52nd time this year, has included in the Grand Angle program two Latvian films that have already started a respectable festival life. – a film by director Vitaly Manski “Gorbachev. Paradise“And an Italian / Latvian co-production film”I was born Roselle”(Latvian producer – Uldis Cekulis,“ VFS Films ”). In one of the festival’s internationaljuriesLatvian director Laila Pakalniņa, whose documentary short film “The First Bridge” had its world premiere in the “Visions Du Réel” competition program just a year ago, will be judging medium-length films and short films.
Along with the film programs, an important part of this festival is the film market. “VdR–Film Market”, An online platform for industry professionals, where the individual programs of several festival partners are also highlighted.
