The Chinese group Huawei will invest around $ 1 billion this year, or 840 million euros, in research into electric cars and self-driving vehicles. The company thus wishes to compete with the flagships of the electric automobile Tesla and Xiaomi.
The Huawei company, best known for telecommunications and its smartphones, will partner with three Chinese automotive companies to develop this new vehicle. To do this, it will join forces with BAIC Group, Chongqing Changan Automobile and Guangzhou Automobile Group. Cars should carry the ‘Huawei’ logo.
The vehicles could have a range of 1,000 kilometers, according to senior Huawei official Eric Xu.
By relying heavily on electric cars, the Chinese group would like to tap into a new market when it has been heavily affected by US sanctions.
China’s Xiaomi previously announced at the end of March that it would inject around $ 10 billion into the development of electric and self-driving cars over the next ten years. China is the world’s largest automobile market, and sales of electric motor vehicles are expected to increase sharply this year.
